COMMUNITY MAGAZINES

BOOKS

In addition to publishing the VILLAGE VOICE series of community magazines we also publish local history books and details of the first two are shown below. Further books are planned for 2010 and two more will be available shortly - check back here for details. As time goes on we are hoping to be able to offer books from other publishers and we will certainly be including reviews of other books that may be of interest to readers.

WITH A SONG IN THEIR HEARTS

Originally published in 2007 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the formation of The Gentlemen Songsters Male Voice Choir only a few copies of this book are now available.

The book follows the choir from its humble beginnings in Wall Heath through to its performances at the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal Show.... complete with stories from   “behind the scenes”.

Just a few copies remain and we are selling those at just £2.00 each + £1.00 towards postage and packing.

Contact details can be found below. Cheques or Postal Orders should be made payable to

Arcos Design.

TALES FROM A CHURCHYARD

Contact us.
Newly published, this tells the stories of some of those commemorated in the churchyard at St John’s Church, Kates Hill. Tales include the story of the Tipton Slasher, Marion Richardson (who developed the modern way of teaching handwriting in schools), brewery magnate Julia Hanson, Stephen Burns (who was a member of the famous Dambusters squadron) and Walter Chiverton who served an incredible 77 years in the Army.
There is also the story of Mary Ann Mason who was murdered in the ‘Sailors Return’ pub in Kates Hill by her boyfriend. Her grave is very unusual in that the name of her murderer is included on the headstone.
All profits from the book are being donated to the Save St John’s Church Preservation Group who are raising funds to repair this beautiful old church which has been closed since 2002.
More details about the Group can be found on their website - we have included a link on our ‘Links’ page.
The book is currently available from the Group on their stall on Dudley Market every Saturday at £7.50 or direct from us at £8.99 (including postage and packing.
Contact details can be found below. Cheques and postal orders should be made payable to      Arcos Design.

COMING SOON

We have two more books due to hit the book shelves shortly. One is called “The Bench Will Retire” and is about the magistrates courts in Dudley. The other is a compilation of all the historic pieces from the first years of our Sedgley/Gornal/Coseley magazine. Full details about both magazines will be available shortly.
In both cases, however, the number of books being produced will be limited....so it will  be a first come, first served!!!
