LINKS

We’ve picked out some of our favourite sites that readers may like to have a look at. If any of the links are broken please let us know so that we can modify this listing accordingly. Also if you have any sites that you feel should be included please let us know. More will be added shortly.

FAVOURITE CAUSES

At the moment we have two causes that we are particularly close to our hearts:

SAVE ST JOHN’S CHURCH PRESERVATION GROUP is desperately seeking to raise funds to carry out urgent work to repair this beautiful old church and to turn it into a resource that all the local community can use. Check out their website at:

BIKING BIRDER is something very different. Gary Prescott is a teacher from Bromsgrove who has taken a year off to cycle around Britain visiting every RSPB and WWT reserve. During his 5000 mile epic journey he is also visiting schools and giving talks about ‘going green’ and the need to start looking after our environment.  He is keeping track of the number of bird species he sees during the year and is hoping to top 250 different species by the time that he finishes the ride at Sandwell Valley Reserve on 31st December. He is raising funds along the way for the RSPB, WWT and Asthma UK. His website is at:

LOCAL HISTORY

There are a number of good local history websites available. Among our favourites are:

www.sedgleymanor.com

Maintained by Ian Beach, this includes a tremendous amount of material about the old parish of Sedgley, its buildings and people. It is regularly up-dated and is one of our favourites.

Another good site belongs to the Sedgley Local History Society and this can be accessed at:

www.sedgleylocalhistory.org.uk

For anyone interested in the history of the old Sedgley Park school then all the information you are likely to need can be found at:

www.freewebs.com/sedgleypark

Amblecote was once the smallest Urban District in the country. Now it is just a very small part of Dudley Metropolitan Borough - but that still hasn’t stopped it having a very good site about its history at:

www.amblecote.org

Stourbridge has a very good site at:

www.stourbridge.com

As does Kingswinford at:

www.kingswinford.org

And finally in this section we should not forget the  largest local history society in the area. The Black Country Society maintains a very good website which can be accessed on:

www.blackcountrysociety.co.uk
